Frequently Asked Questions

  • Covid-19 highlighted a key gap in the continuum of veterinary care. Primary care hospitals were scheduled weeks to months out, and emergency rooms were experiencing extended wait times. Following our counterparts in human medicine, veterinary urgent care (or pet urgent care) is the preferred solution to bridge the gap between primary and specialty/ER care. Urgent care allows patients in pain with acute or non-life threatening diseases to be seen within 24 hours by ER- and critical care-trained veterinarians and without the extended wait and high cost of an ER. Ruby Veterinary Urgent Care is the link between your primary care veterinarian and the ER while supporting both equally.

  • Monday-Friday 2pm-10pm

    Saturday and Sunday 10am-6pm

    Closed all major holidays

In the future, we plan to be open on certain holidays. We will keep you posted!

  • You can schedule an appointment through our online booking portal, chatting with us through our integrated chat function, or by calling us.

  • Absolutely, we welcome all walk-ins! Our team is available to see all pets, whether scheduled appointments or walk-ins, until the day’s appointment slots have filled up. It is recommended to check the website or give us a call prior to bringing your pet in to ensure appointment slots are still available. Appointment slots are opened several days prior and remain on the site until all are filled. Walk-in patients will be seen on a first-come, first-served basis and placed into an available appointment slot if stable to wait. If your pet’s needs are so severe you think they cannot wait to be seen, this by definition is an emergency, and your pet should be taken directly to a local emergency hospital. If in doubt, someone from our team is always happy to help you triage your pet’s needs.

  • Our team will do their best to stay on top of the schedule. Barring any unexpected critical or emergency cases, please allow a buffer of 10 minutes after your scheduled appointment time.

  • Dogs and cats only. Please leave your pet zebra, raccoon, snake, or fish at home (thanks!).

  • Our exam fee is $125. This includes taking a thorough medical history and performing a complete examination by one of our experienced veterinarians. Once our veterinarian has established and discussed a recommended diagnostic and treatment plan with you, we will provide an estimate of the cost of services. While we will never apologize for the high quality of care we provide, we do understand that veterinary care can be expensive. We’ll discuss additional diagnostic and treatment options if needed and come to an agreed-upon plan. We also offer multiple flexible payment options.

  • We accept almost all forms of payment including the majority of credit cards, debit cards, Care Credit, Scratch Pay, and cash. We accept tap-to-pay services including Apple Pay. We do not accept checks.

  • We offer a wide array of tools to identify the source of your pet’s illness or to determine how severe their injuries may be including, but not limited to:

    • Onsite Digital X-Ray

    • Onsite FAST Ultrasound

    • Onsite laboratory for blood, urine, and fecal analysis

    • Onsite endoscopy for gastric foreign body removal

    • Onsite pharmacy

    • Parvo, FeLV/FIV, and heartworm testing

  • Pets who have been diagnosed with a condition requiring overnight hospitalization will be referred to a local 24-hour facility.

  • We can perform minor surgical procedures like laceration repairs, enucleations, and wound care. More extensive procedures like intestinal foreign body obstruction, internal bleeding, GDV, pyometra, dystocia, and other life-threatening cases will be referred to a nearby 24-hour facility.

  • Our team has a strong network of capable 24-hour facilities and can suggest one to meet your pet’s needs. Ultimately, the choice of which facility to transfer your pet to is yours. We will contact the facility of choice and ensure they are prepared to take over your pet’s care.

  • After your pet’s visit, all records including physical exam findings, diagnostic results, treatments performed, and follow up recommendations will be emailed to your primary care veterinarian. We remain available to discuss your pet’s visit with your primary care veterinarian at any time.

  • We ask that you pay upfront for your visit in your preferred payment method. We will provide you all the necessary documentation to submit to your insurance company for reimbursement.

  • We do not. We value these services as best served by your primary care veterinarian. We are here for sick visits, minor injuries, and anything else that isn’t a life-threatening emergency.

  • Just like in human medicine, the emergency room is for life-threatening issues or extremely serious concerns. If your dog or cat can’t breathe, is bleeding significantly, or is unresponsive, you should go directly to the ER. If you cannot determine whether your pet is best served by us or an ER, we still encourage you to come into Ruby Veterinary Urgent Care where we can triage, stabilize your pet if necessary, and help you transfer them to the facility best suited to meet your pet’s needs.

  • Ruby Veterinary Urgent Care values the relationship between your primary care veterinarian and your pet and the annual wellness and preventative care provided, as well as elective surgeries. We are an additional option for sick visits (e.g. diarrhea, vomiting, itchy skin, ear infections, minor injuries and pain, accidental ingestions, and much more) but with the ability to see you same-day or after-hours when your primary care veterinarian is unavailable.
